9/22/22 Sweet Marjoram and dill are flowering, harvested sylvetta arugula seeds

 Harvesting cherry tomatoes from garage. Put another cherry tomato plant in garage. Harvested some dill and sylvetta arugula seeds. That arugula kept producing all summer.

9/21/22 Raspberries, Birds enjoying sunflower seeds. New bright pink sedum. Cover crops sprouting

 Very short aster in back lawn. Some flies attacking the fruit of a volunteer tomato plant in west garden so I pulled it up and tossed it under the arbor vitae. Around this time I harvested some sunflower seeds and brought them in to cure. May harvest some more later if the birds leave me any.

9/19/22 Fall root crops, arugula and romaine growing well

 Packed up another cherry tomato plant to overwinter in the fridge. Seem to be a lot of grasshoppers this year. Fall crops growing well. Lots of wild flowers, asters, golden rod, blooming along bike path.

9/18/22 Prepped one cherry tomato plant to overwinter in fridge.

 I'm experimenting with overwintering cherry tomato plants by wrapping the roots in damp, shredded newspaper and storing in fridge's crisper drawer. I'll have to look up the variety and label the ziplock baggie. I'm not saving any beef steak and roma tomato plants. We prefer cherry tomatoes. So my next project is to keep experimenting with cherry tomato varieties (that my husband likes the flavor of) to see which ones can be hung in garage or basement so we can keep harvesting tomatoes past first frost. I'd also like to see if I can get tomatoes in May/June. I want to grow some red dwarf cherry tomatoes inside this winter but I haven't ordered the seeds yet. I want to take seed inventory and order for next year all at once.

My husband and I fenced in the two fall crop gardens because rabbits have been eating the plants. However the one foot space is a tight squeeze between the chicken wire and the fence. I need to move the gardens out another foot in spring. We have nasturiums in 3 colors, red, orange, and yellow. Delicious!  A nice spicy summer green with floral undertones. I enjoy growing edible flowers especially easy and prolific ones.

9/17/22 Tomatoes, ground cherries, and greens

 Interesting caterpillars on dill next to brussel sprouts. Volunteer cantaloupe still growing. Beans and chamomile are only giving a little. Harvesting tomatoes, ground cherries, and greens. I really enjoy the autumn joy pink sedum. It's easy to grow and the bees like it too. Late planted candula and erect marigold are growing. The erect marigold seems to be a very tough plant.

9/16/22 Tithonia and Sedums blooming

 Greens, green peppers, tomatillos, ground cherries, raspberry, cherry, roma and beefsteak tomatoes. Lots of bees on the sedums.
