Square made by working in round and increasing at the corners

Here's another way to make a square.
  • Chain 6 and make loop by slip stitching loop 1 to loop 6.
  • then HDC (half double crochet) over chain and into ring. (by doing this it doesn't really matter if you're off by one stitch on the foundation chain.)
  • crochet on one side only into back of stitch
  • in rows (not a spiral)
  • helps to mark beginning of row with a scrap of different color yarn.
  • * means repeat

K hook
Lavender yarn

Chain 6 and sl st tog (slip stitch together)
Rows
  1. 12 hdc evenly over and around ring, sl st to connect row.
  2. ch 2, 1 HDC *inc by 3 hdc, then 2 hdc * (repeat pattern between * to make square) hdc, sl st
  3. ch 2, 2 HDC *inc by 3 hdc, then 4 hdc* (repeat pattern between* to make square) hdc, sl st.

My notes, it's all HDC worked in back of chain on same side:
