5/22/22 Alyssum and Marigolds sprouting

5/22/22 Alyssum and Marigolds

Toad hiding under wood chip bags in trailer. Went to city yard and got more free wood chips which we store in garbage bags outside.

Started Rhubarb sauce; Overnight in large crockpot on high, about 24+ cups sliced rhubarb, 3 scant cups sugar, 3 scant tsp salt, 1 lemon with peel but no seeds. (Lemon peel supposedly acts as a thickener.) In the morning cook without cover to help evaporate excess liquid. Taste and adjust sugar/salt to your taste. Cooks down to about 6 pints.

5/19/22 Planted east patio garden, March Coldframe Tatsoi, mustard, arugula starting to bloom

5/19/22 Been raining, mostly drizzling, almost everyday. Back to our cooler weather of 40-50 at night and 60s during the day. Mostly cloudy. The sun peeks out once in a while.

Planted east Patio Garden

  • Back North Row - 4 sweetie cherry tomato plants, 2 sweet banana peppers
  • Middle Row - bojangle peppers
  • Front South Row - salsa peppers

Wild spinach still growing.

Some of the Tatsoi, Mustard, and Arugula that I put in cold frame in March are blooming. So far mesclun is not blooming.

Alyssum continues to grow and bloom. This particular plant is growing with Mesclun.

I believe this is a white avalanche beet. I'll find out when we pick it. Right now I occasionally throw one of its leaves in our daily salad.

5/16/22 Lilacs are blooming and asparagus is taller than fence

Orache growing well among the clover.

More Wando peas came up than Sugar Ann Peas in west patio garden. (Planted 15 seeds of each.)

Added lawn grass clippings to raspberry bed. Some of the garden beds are losing volume so need to replenish garden beds by sheet composting with alternate layers grass and woodchips. Need to move raspberry escapees to East driveway garden.

Across the street neighbor's lilacs are blooming.

Livingston has the worst opening and closing package. Maybe I should open from the bottom but then I would have to store upside down. I like to only plant a few seeds at a time from each packet.

Planted a bunch of flowers and herbs.

Asparagus is higher than the fence.
