6/1/23 planted warm weather crops, very hot and dry. 85F in shade

Mixed up 1/2 c cornstarch (added slowly to a small amount of cold water before adding the rest of the 4c of water. Then heated up in microwave until it got hot. Cooled overnight then put about 1/4 - 1/2 c in baggies. (Ratio 2T cornstarch : 1 c water)

The shade cloth helps. The west patio garden is shaded from the West sun by our fence so it stays pretty cool. Greens (Arugula, mustard, romaine lettuce, volunteer Kale) growing very well. Way too much mustard in west garden so I have been cutting it back and using it as mulch.

I planted more carrots from Bob's sow easy pack. I really like carrots but they are tough to grow. I'm letting a couple of carrots go to seed that I overwintered from last year to see if we can get ones that like our climate and heavy, clay soil. The round atlas and very short parisienne carrots seem to work the best here.

We also like radishes but it's already too hot for them. They come up fairly quick but then just sit there in this heat. Surprised they are not bolting

Planted nasturiums in front circle garden. That's basically clay soil mixed with rocks. Last year's overwintered Colorado Parsley is doing well. Magnolia peas are happy. I think something is eating the sugar ann and avalanche snow pea. New Zealand spinach and new sunflowers coming up.
